Sharks Earn 4-0 Win in Game One of the Battle of the Fish

The series will wrap up with a Saturday doubleheader at noon

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Kicking off its final regular season series of the 2019 slate, the Nova Southeastern softball team picked up a 4-0 victory over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday night at Simpson Field.  
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
TOP 3RD | The Sharks were the first to score in the top of the third, grabbing a 1-0 lead. With one out and the bases loaded, a wild pitch by PBA's Abbey Busby allowed Kayla Kight to reach, after getting hit by a pitch two batters prior.


TOP 5TH | With Alex Suzuki at second and Keeley Mayers at first, a ground out by Miriam Schmoll advanced the runners before an error by the Sailfish's first baseman allowed both Suzuki and Mayers to score, making it 3-0 in favor of the Sharks.
 
TOP 6TH | NSU added an insurance run the next inning, as Tia Williams double to center to bring home Sydney Lageyre, who led the inning off with a single through the left side.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
 
  • The Sharks outhit the Tars 8-3.
  • Mayers finished 2-for-2 and scored once while Lageyre was 2-for-3 with a scored run.
  • Williams was 1-for-4 with the lone RBI of the game.
  • Schmoll took the win, pitching all 7.0 innings and earning the shutout allowing just three hits with four strikeouts.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
 
  • This was Schmoll's 10th shutout of the season, her third in eight days.

The Sharks will conclude its 2019 regular season with a doubleheader against the Sailfish starting at 12:00 noon on Saturday
